Multicultural Day and Open House

Brandon had a great experience at Sumner-Danbury's annual Multicultural Day. Each classroom in the entire school represents a different country. Many weeks of preparation are put into this event and it was extremely evident as I saw the various classrooms. They were all amazing! On this special day, the students are assigned two "countries" to go to, and they even have a "passport!" Brandon and London went to "India" first. Here they learned a stick game. By the way, I LOVE LOVE this picture of London!
The next county to see was "Mexico." Brandon enjoyed making a mask and eating chips and salsa.

Our classroom represented "Canada," therefore the kindergartners were "Canadian Mounted Police" for the day. So super cute!

Then the entire school sat together to say "hello" in their countries language and to sing a couple of songs.
Later that night it was Open House. Brandon enjoyed showing me some of the things he has done this past year in Kindergarten (even though I have been there helping out several times a week and have already seen it all!)

After visiting our classroom and many others, we ended the night by finding Canada's flag amongst many other flags from around the world. London started singing the Canadian National Anthem...LOVE HER! ;)

The fun never ends at Papa John and Nana's!

Just when Brandon thought that a visit to Papa John and Nana's house couldn't be any more fun, they went and bought Kayaks. I think we have hit maximum fun capacity!
It was a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Nothing better than family and a gorgeous day at the beach.

fifth one gone...

Two weeks ago something big happened. Brandon took one hard bite down on a bread stick and his right front tooth became very loose. Three hours later and another bite down on a cracker and, POP, it came right out. This is the fifth tooth that Brandon has lost! I was a little bit concerned about how he would look when he lost one or both of his front teeth, but I couldn't hold back the huge smile that came across my face when I saw that big open space for the very first time. Two words- unbelievably adorable. I think he is even cuter now. How is that possible? ;)

Gold Rush!

Brandon and his classmates are studying Canada. They have learned a ton over the past few weeks and they can practically sing the Canadian National Anthem all by themselves. :) The Klondike Gold Rush was super fun to learn about because their fabulous teacher recreated the whole historical event. Here they are looking for GOLD (which was actually little gold painted rocks!) They had the best time becoming "rich!"

Field Trip!

Brandon and his classmates went on a field trip to the Huntington Library. The bus ride was so much fun...a first for Brandon! He got to sit by his two very best buds-London and Demaurea. :)

Two super teachers!

Last week we celebrated "Teacher Appreciation Week." It was a fun four days, giving small gifts and goodies to our teachers. On Thursday we surprised them with a pancake brunch.



Our WONDERFUL Mrs K and Ms. Sanchez deserve much much more than just a week of little surprises, but our small display of gratitude will have to do for now. :) They are the very best and all the kindergarten friends are so lucky to be taught by them each and every day. WE LOVE YOU! Thank you for all that you do.

You know your child is growing when...

they eat a bowl of soup and two pieces of toast, THEN Spaghettio's and more toast, THEN pasta and more toast. No joke. Brandon is doing some serious growing. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDON!

Well he did it. Brandon turned 6, even though I told him not to. ;) Monday May 11th, the day before his birthday, Brandon came down with a terrible case of "pink eye." So after a quick trip to the doctor and the pharmacy that morning, we decided to use our day-out-of-school to have some fun and prepare for the next day's celebration! Here is my almost birthday boy helping me make the buttercream icing for his cupcakes. He is fantastic at measuring! Just look how he didn't spill at all! ;)


We did lots of playing outside...we even found some new friends. Brandon thought it would be fun to let the snails have a race.

Yes! They finally made it! Okay, that is just the stinkin' cutest face I have ever seen.
The next day, the BIG DAY, Brandon woke up to blue balloons all over the living room floor. There were birthday signs hanging around the room saying things like, "The Big 6!" and "I hope you have the very best day ever!" I think he liked it.

On the table was a list of activities that we were going to do throughout the day to celebrate. The first thing on the list was to have a "mashed potato and Pineapple Fanta soda breakfast." What can I say, it's his FAVORITE!

The next thing on the list was to go to school, wear a birthday crown, have friends sing "Happy Birthday" to him and enjoy cupcakes. He did just that.

After school, we went to Disneyland (we had to, it was on the list:)) with Uncle Greg, Aunt Angie and cousin Lily. Brandon wanted to ride on ONE ride and ONE ride only...Toy Story! And that is just what we did.


Brandon had $59 to spend at Disneyland because of the birthday "gift card" he received. Spending that amount was way too easy for my lil b-day shopper. It was just about a one-stop-shop for him. He bought a Star Wars Mr. Potato Head named "Spuda Fett," four Star Wars figures, a "build-your-own" light saber and a container of cotton candy! Wow! Let's just say he was so excited!

The entire day was jam packed full of fun, but the very best thing was when Nana and Papa John met us at Downtown Disney. There they gave Brandon the most wonderful gift...a Nintendo DS! Brandon loves his special gift so much! He played with it all the way home. Matter of fact, he has not stopped playing it!
We came home and finished up the day by playing Brandon's favorite game right now, the Pokemon dance game. (It's a crazy game that he made up. Lot's of Jonas Brother's music and lot's of dancing!) Happy Birthday Brandon! I am so so thankful you came into this world.
